Energy efficiency grants for middle income households

There have been rumblings in the press about the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announcing a new scheme that will help middle income households improve the energy efficiency of their houses.

The government press release went out on the 28th November and outlines some of the aims of the new scheme.

‘The existing ECO scheme (known as ECO4) is targeted at those who need support most; those in social housing, on a low-income or fuel poor. However, with the significant increase in energy bills, the government intends up to 80% of ECO+ to help a wider customer base who are currently not eligible for support under existing government-backed energy efficiency schemes.’

The Guardian hinted at it being accessible for people in council bands A-D but this is yet to be confirmed.

The full government press release is available here.

The consultation process will run from 28 November to 23 December.
